About Cowley Lions Castle River Campground
The Cowley Lions Castle River Campground is operated by the Cowley Lions Club.
Background: The land that the Cowley Lions Castle River Campground is situated on is leased from the Crown by the Municipal District of Pincher Creek #9 and then subleased to the Cowley Lions Club for over fifty years. During this time the Cowley Lions Club held an amateur rodeo and ran a semi-organized campground until approximately the year 2000. After the Lions Club ceased holding the rodeo, the campground became the project for the Cowley Lions Club and over the years major improvements have been made such as official campsites, some of which were later hooked up to power, roads and washroom facilities.
We are a family-oriented campground, with a playground and basketball court for the younger campers. Fishing, hiking, canoeing, and kayaking are available during the camping season.
We are situated on the Castle River at SW ¼ 27-06-02-W5 Municipal District of Pincher Creek #9, on highway 507, north approximately 3.5 kms from the turn-off at the intersection of highway 774 south and 507 west. Alternately, 13.8 kms south of the intersection of Highway 3 and Highway 507 south. Please watch for signs.

At present we have eighty sites, half of which are for nightly campers with all but five sites now powered. Non-potable water is available. Bundles of firewood are also available for purchase. The majority of sites are limited to one unit per site but there are some available for multiple units on request. Open fires are permitted in the campground proper, unless fire restrictions are in place.
We also have a large overflow area for dry camping for when we are full. No open wood or briquet fires are allowed in this area but propane campfires, stoves and barbeques are permitted. There is no power to this area.
A stockade is available for renting to groups to hold events of every nature, such as graduations, weddings and reunions. The stockade consists of a three-sided, steel- roofed, steel encased building 50 feet by 80 feet with a cement floor, surrounded by a lean-to type perimeter with walls of twelve feet, also wrapped with metal. A shipping container is attached to the building that houses kitchen facilities. Inside the partially enclosed area are cooking grills, sinks and tables and chairs for the renters use. All areas of the stockade are open to the center where a large fire pit and benches allow for enjoyment of nature. A RV parking area is available for groups, unattached to the stockade. No RV’s or tents are permitted in the area of the stockade, however, vehicle parking is allowed. Watch for signs.
